3-Steps To Becoming A Business That Makes A Difference

I call today’s idea the Warm & Fuzzy Hack … AKA becoming a business that makes a difference

At some point, your business is going to be in a position where you can give a little bit back to others. In my experience, it’s always the right move, not just for the outside publicity that comes with supporting a cause, but also for the added benefit of boosting employee, customer and supplier morale. So, if you’re in such a position, look for opportunities to give back.

Here’s my 3-steps to creating that warm and fuzzy business feeling:

  1. Decide on a cause to support. I always think it makes sense to choose one that has some strategic relevance to your business. For example, if you’re a Vet then support an animal shelter.
  2. Once you’ve picked a cause to partner with, decide how you can help. Options include financial donations, donating your time, or donating products or services. Maybe you could even help promote them to your client base.
  3. Make a point of making this a permanent part of your marketing strategy. Diarise some involvement with your chosen cause on at least a monthly basis.

Pro-Tip:

Don’t hesitate to let others know about your involvement – it’s good for your business, it builds awareness around your chosen cause, and it might just encourage those around you to also get involved.

These small steps can help you yield larger returns, and who knows, you might be one of the most inspiring companies to work for.

Here’s two resources to help you choose your cause:

 Pro Bono Australia

Volunteering Australia
