Independent Australian production studio, The Woolshed Co. have released the results of a two-year social experiment exploring the phenomenon of ‘viral’ videos and shareable content. They repeatedly achieved world wide news coverage and gained over 200 million views with a series of 8 fake viral videos without any paid media, promotion or publicity.
That’s right, every single one of the viral videos below are fakes. They didn’t really happen!
The results were amazing:
- 164 years of YouTube viewing time
- 200+ million views
- And a mountain of new business for this small, Melbourne-based video production business!
You can listen here to my interview with one of the creators, David Christison of The Woolshed Company, but here are the 8 viral videos that fooled the world:
Well, which one is your favourite?
Or does the fact that they’re all fakes simply annoy the hell out of you?

Well, I had to watch these videos after listening to your podcast. If I take them as pure entertainment, I guess, they have place out there. Personally, I’m not a fan but if it helps to propel a business forward, then why not?
I agree, Michaela. It’s a genius marketing idea by the guys at The Woolshed.
Had to watch these after the podcast episode Tim. Great stuff and great interview buddy.
Thanks Mark. It’s a great use of marketing on many levels.
