In-your-face start-up Grrrl gambled 95% of it’s marketing budget on UFC’s underdog Holly Holm (ranked 7th in the world) beating the world #1 Ronda Rousey in last week’s Bantamweight World Title Fight. Well, the underdog won and this has tuned out to be an inspired sponsorship decision. Listen in as founder Kortney Olson (a State Jiu Jitsu champion and Australian arm wrestling title holder) takes us through the deal and what it’s done for her brand new business.
As Grrrl Clothing say on their website – GRRRL is a brand new type of clothing company. We make real clothes for real grrrls who simply don’t care about what anybody else thinks. We celebrate everything female. For every woman. Recognising that all real grrrls come in all kinds of different shapes and packages. At our heart, we exist to bring all grrrls together to claim not just equality but our rightful sisterhood.
Join me on Australia’s best marketing podcast as Kortney shares:
- Why she chose to sponsor Holly Holm
- How she went about securing the Holly Holm’s sponsorship
- What the Holly Holm’s sponsorship has done for her business
- Why listening to your intuition is critical in business
Yep. You guessed it. It’s another big episode of Australia’s best marketing podcast – so let’s get stuck, right in.
Oh, BTW, no I don’t like or support UFC … but you gotta admit, this is a great marketing story ;0)

MY TOP 3 MARKETING TIPS FROM THIS EPISODE
- Listen to your intuition when it comes to making marketing decisions. Business decisions. Any decisions!
- Take on a victor mentality … not a victim mentality.
- Sponsoring a celebrity doesn’t need to be for just big business – take a calculated marketing risk, think about whom you could sponsor … then ask!
INSPIRATIONAL MARKETING QUOTE

Successful people keep moving.
They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.”

Wow – what a gamble and even more incredible pay off!!! Timbo you need to start development techniques to get people to open up to the numbers!! I want to know how much money was at risk…
Well, I did ask the question in a couple of different ways. I’m guessing Korts was restricted on what she could say due to the fragile nature of sponsorships. I’ll get a bit harder with my line of questioning going forward ;0)
