269 – Marketing tips from a $7M business doubling year on year with Nathan Huppatz of Costumes.com.au

Ready for some online retailing tips that apply to any business – online or offline?

We all love a good dress up, right? Personally, I love wearing my undies on the outside. You? Well, today’s guest has built a seven million dollar business by helping us find the ultimate costume. And it’s a business that’s doubling every year. That’s a lot of costumes!

When Nathan Huppatz and Costumes.com.au co-founders Brendan Taylor and Ian Slinger launched their online dress-up retail business in 2010, they already had their fingers in plenty of different e-commerce pies.

The group had just sold an online fishing company, begun a guitar e-retailer and launched an online electronics business, on top of the fledging costumes website – which started its life as an lingerie store!

Having started in the e-commerce space back in 1999 – when online businesses had to write their own software to be in the game – Nathan was already well versed in online retailing. But like any serial entrepreneurs, he was on the lookout for the golden idea and weren’t afraid to try new things out along the way.

Fast forward to today and Costumes.com.au is a $7 million dollar business and doubling each year.

So listen in as Nathan shares the journey to this success and how he’s done it.

Plus in this episode of Australia’s best marketing podcast, I share some great business pitches from Forum Members, share some ideas on how to get those marketing ideas implemented and I’ve got an inspirational marketing quote from none other than Abraham Lincoln.

Enjoy!

  1. Another great podcast Timbo, full of marketing G O L D! I loved Nathan’s quiet, methodical approach to building costumes.com.au. My big takeaways from this podcast were; always focus on customer experience, do the things with the best roi’s and always look at ways to improve.

    Keep up the great work,
