Speed skater Steven Bradbury created history in Salt Lake City when he became the first Australian to win a Winter Olympic Gold Medal. Off the back of that, Steve has created a fantastic small business.
His remarkable and unlikely victory was achieved after a spectacular final-lap spill took out his four rivals. Bradbury threw his arms up in disbelief and smiled as he crossed the finish line.
During my fireside chat with Steve, you’ll discover:
- What it means to “Do a Bradbury!”
- Why surrounding yourself with A-Players is good for business
- What the smart alternative is to giving up

I think the key thing about your discussion with Steven Bradbury is that you need to be prepared to put your head up and say what you think, or even make a joke! And sometimes that won’t quite work. But the key thing is you are having a go – whether it be public speaking, starting a podcast or commenting here. Good on you both for having a go.
This was a great discussion Tim. Entertaining and enlightening. I love the Steven Bradbury story. I remember reading once how he said that he worked hard for years and years to be in a position to win the race, people may not know that, be he did, and he crossed the finish line first. Brilliant story and glad he has kicked on.
Also loved the ‘Under the hood’ segment with Lukey, nice addition to the show. Can this become a regular segment? And the integration of sponsor mentions is working nicely too.
Overall, a gold medal winning episode.
Thanks for another great interview Tim. I was fortunate enough to meet Steven and listen to one of his motivational talks (fittingly he was promoting a hospital falls prevention program using my self-designed GripSox product and he highlighted the importance of staying on your feet…classic!!) His story truly is inspirational and a great life lesson for any small business owner experiencing the highs and lows on the road to success.
By the way, I also stayed at RACV Torquay the other day. How good is it! And as for Bells Beach…they don’t come much better!
Loved hearing Lukey again! That needs to be a semi-regular segmant Timbo! Been in the weeds with FB lately myself, and have had some similar results. Got more than some likes and shares though. Booked about $8-9000 in business with the Boosting (so far).
My take away with Steve was the point of making your own luck. Funny how those that are working it, seem to be the luckiest! I also resonated with not giving up. Things get tough, and I’ve been in the weeds with some things as of late, but it was a great motivational reminder to keep at it.
Lastly…I know this Uncle Milty you speak of in the daily quote. He’s an oldie but a goodie. Make a door, but sometime leave a window open, you never know what might crawl in!
Good stuff mate! Looking forward to our time tomorrow!
What a funny bloke! And his passion is infectious. Had a few chuckles throughout the interview too. Thanks for a great dose of motivation Steve and Tim.
I’m going the shameless plug just like Steve!

I liked the show. Gave me respect for the guy…finally. We are all so stupid to think it’s easy to get into the winter Olympics.
I was only upset that maybe this interview helped him win those talking gigs that you were supposed to get. Just trying to stick up for you Timbo. (he probably said – let me talk, Timbo interviewed me!…..ah I guess you’re over it by now. Well as we Woo-Woo people say “What’s meant to be is meant to be….”)
On a most serious note. I’m hoping one day you can have some pure Woo-woo episodes !!!!
