#57 The Importance Of Brand Building.

#57 The Importance Of Brand Building.

In this episode of the Small Business Big Marketing podcast, Timbo talks about the importance of brand building for small businesses with the Head Of Marketing at Melbourne’s Monash University  – Professor Mike Ewing. The Prof as we affectionately call him, has categorical evidence that that small businesses that invest in building a brand will be more profitable. Period!

He then goes in to quite some detail on a number of actions they can take to help them build a strong, healthy brand.

We also geek out on QR Codes (what are they and how you can use them in your marketing).

  1. Timmbo, well I’ve paid up for the big school. Loved your first intro line. What kept you?? Ha. If you had any idea how much shit I had to reorganise to get to at least 7 of these you’d know what kept me.
Anyway really looking forward to the first session with you.
BTW. Anyway could you possible email out the mindmap with overview like on the video. Maybe help us prepare some questions we may have on that topic in case it isn’t covered in the session & it’s a session we may have to miss due to committments, or are you going to make me go through the whole 1/2 hour video again?
As much as I luv ya mate, 1/2 hour, really!

  2. Welcome aboard, Arn. Now you’re putting the pressure on! You make an interesting observation about the 1/2 hour video. My view is that I high involvement – $995 – purchase requires all points to be covered so as people can make an informed purchase decision. That said, I need to balance that against the time people have to consume such information. Interesting discussion. I will certainly make that mind-map available to you. Stay tuned and I’ll endeavour to do so before 10AM Thursday.

  3. Actually the video was great, really helped understand what we were signing up for. Maybe being able to download it to iPhone as an MP4 would have helped so could watch in parts when free moments came up.
    See you tomorrow.

  4. Thanks Tim & Luke.

This is one of the simplest and best explanations of branding I’ve heard.

Branding has a mixed reputation vs. Direct Response. But really it’s not an either or situation is it.

Branding = Know + Like + Trust in a way that creates added Value.

Value = (Tangible Benefits + Intangible Benefits) ÷ Price.

Focus on building the Intangible Benefits. Nice.

  5. Absolutely loved this podcast on branding. Have a small wholesale business of 32 years and now venturing into the world of retailing for my bakery products. I will be implementing the information given on branding into my retail business. Thank you for such great information and love your show.

  9. Andrew, the Masterclass recordings will be released late November. If you sign-up at our Home page you’ll be one of the first to know. Glad you liked the first part of the interview … the Prof knows his stuff.

  10. Thanks for the kind words OHB. I love the business name BTW … not sure why, but an Old Hawaiian Bakery sounds tasty!
