A little more about marketplace specialist Shaun Latham …
Way back in 2006 he was stuck in a cubicle as a web developer for a big telco. In his own words, he had “a safe, boring job!”
So he escaped that cubicle and founded SexToy.com.au, using his development skills to automate the order fulfilment with his various suppliers; which at the time, was fairly unique.
His suppliers were so impressed with his work, they asked him to do it for their own sites, plus they asked him to list their products on all the various marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon, Kogan and others. And this is where it gets interesting.
Shaun did the math and figured out that he’d make more money selling the picks and shovels (ie. doing the automations) than mining the gold (eg. running a retail site).
So that’s what he does now at InfoBytes Media.
What’s blown my mind is Shaun’s belief that if you’re an e-commerce product seller and are only selling through your online and / or offline stores (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce etc) then you’re leaving a bucket load of money on the table by not selling through the plethora of marketplaces now available online.
