283 – Product Demonstration Ideas (And Mighty Good Ones At That) With Jacklyn James Of Kiddies Food Kutter.

Within 30-seconds of meeting today’s guest she started slashing at her arm with a knife. Fortunately it was a safety knife – but I didn’t know that!

Jacklyn James is the inventor of the child-safe cutting knife … Kiddies Food Kutter. And she is a master (or should that be mistress) when it comes to demonstrating it in action. At farmers’ markets and culinary events all over Victoria she woos passers by with a mix of extraordinary passion and genuine belief in her product.

Join me for this fireside chat with here as she shares:

  • How she escaped the corporate cubicle
  • Where the idea for the Kiddies Food Kutter came from
  • How she got it to market
  • How she markets it (there’s some very clever ideas)
  • Plus she shares her secrets to a successful product demonstration

Yep, it’s another big episode of Australia’s best marketing podcast.

So let’s get stuck … right in.

MY TOP 5 MARKETING TIPS FROM THIS EPISODE

  1. Spend time looking for the best position for each and every piece of your marketing – your ads, your social media channels, your stands at expos … everything.
  2. Always present yourself and every part of your business as well as you can – consistency and great presentation doesn’t need to cost a fortune.
  3. Nail your spiel.
  4. Be selective about which prospects you focus on – I love Jacklyn’s phrase “Pick the heads”.
  5. Get passionate. Let it show.

  1. Timbo very pleased to hear that Jackie’s retirement is looked after with her super. And interested to hear a grand old brand name – Norwich Union. It is amazing the beautiful brand names (another e.g. Royal and Sun Alliance) that have been lost over the years.

  2. The loss of great brand names is amazing, Steve. What about TAA? Ansett? Kentucky Fried Chicken? Oh wait … that’s now KFC ;0)

  3. Funnily enough we just bought the kiddie cutters at a market from Jacklyn following a product demo. The kids love them. Now just need to train my daughter to say ‘knife’ instead of ‘ife’!

  4. Melanie Gray

I felt so excited about your product Jacklyn! I need to not hold back showing passion for my business and the problems it can solve.

  5. None of us should hold back our passion, Melanie vas long as we truly believe in our business and the problems it solves for people.

  6. I’ve just listened to this episode. It’s not often I’m inspired enough to comment, but after listening to this, I certainly am. I LOVE your gutsy attitude Jacklyn, marketing the hell out of your business, rather than worrying about what could happen if it doesn’t work and you can’t put food on the table. It resonated with me so strongly, because I am working hard to be more like you, and less like a big chicken pants when things don’t go according to plan :-). Good luck Jacklyn, you rock !!!! Oh, and Timbo, thanks for another fantastic interview. You rock too 😉

  7. Thanks for your kind words, Sandy. Jacklyn had some wonderful insights to share … he enthusiasm is infectious 🙂
